Textile collection and textile wasteReuse and Sustainability
Aid, the environment, and social initiatives are the core areas of Human Bridge.
We collect, repair, and distribute medical equipment and disability aids to countries where resources are limited. At the same time, we collect clothes, shoes, and textiles that are used directly in aid efforts or sold to help finance various aid projects.
Environmental efficiency is close to our heart. Recycling, reuse, and repurposing are key principles of our work. Through us, everything from dental chairs to shoes finds new users.
Human Bridge is a workplace built on meaningful community, where everyone should feel welcome. We offer internship opportunities and work training, among other things.

Where your support makes a difference
This means that the recipient can instead use their own, often limited, budget to invest in more advanced equipment that comes with warranties, essential supplier training, and the possibility of service agreements.
Nothing is sold — everything is always donated. Recipients often contribute by covering all or part of the shipping costs, which helps ensure that we deliver the right items while also making it easier for them to place requirements on us as donors. Their support in covering certain costs enables us to deliver even more aid.
Human Bridge currently collaborates with around 25 countries, primarily in Africa, Eastern Europe, and the Middle East.
How we work with aid
Every week, all year round, Human Bridge sends 1–2 aid shipments to recipients around the world. Most of these shipments consist of medical equipment destined for hospitals and clinics.
Through close dialogue with each recipient, we ensure that what we send matches their needs and will be put to use.
The goal of Human Bridge’s aid efforts is to raise the basic level of healthcare at the hospitals, clinics, and institutions we collaborate with. Most of the medical equipment we deliver consists of essential items such as beds, mattresses, and operating tables.
Do you want to contribute to a sustainable world?
Human Bridge is an aid organization focused on healthcare and medical support. Today, we work with partners in around 25 countries. Read more here about how our aid projects are carried out.
Why does Human Bridge work with textile collection?
The collection of textiles is one way to finance our various aid projects. Human Bridge also operates its own second‑hand stores across Sweden under the name Lindra Second Hand (link to page). A portion of the collected clothing is also used directly in humanitarian aid efforts.
Human Bridge has developed a complete, large‑scale textile collection system with sustainability at its core. Today, approximately 12,000 tons of textiles are collected annually. Almost all of it (93–95%) is reused — either on the second‑hand market or through humanitarian initiatives — or recycled into new textile fibers or industrial cleaning cloths.
Most of the collected clothing and textiles come from private individuals, but companies and organizations also donate materials. Everything is pre‑sorted at Human Bridge facilities. The majority is then packed in large sacks and exported to professional, environmentally and quality‑certified sorting companies within the EU, where the textiles are sorted into up to 400 different categories before being sold on the second‑hand market in Europe and Africa.
This is what you can donate
We accept used clothing, garments, underwear, bed linens, towels, household textiles, only intact shoes (preferably in pairs and tied together), hats, blankets, handbags, belts, and accessories.
Examples of items we do not accept: carpets, mattresses, wet or heavily soiled textiles, textile waste, damaged shoes, broken umbrellas and rainwear, torn leather garments, suitcases, baskets, pillows, and duvets.
Where to find our collection containers
Human Bridge’s green collection containers are located at recycling stations, recycling centers, and in residential areas close to housing.

A workplace for everyone
Human Bridge is an inclusive workplace where all employees have the opportunity to grow and develop according to their own abilities. In collaboration with municipal labor‑market units and the Swedish Public Employment Service in the areas where Human Bridge and Lindra Second Hand operate, we offer opportunities for internships, work training, and rehabilitation.
This may involve handling and sorting clothes and textiles at or near one of our depots. There are also opportunities to work within Lindra Second Hand, with tasks related to shop operations and handling clothing and items for the second‑hand market.
